The forum united a lot of professionals in culture, education, philanthropy and media to discuss challenging issues of museology in a global context.

The representatives of 9 countries: Russia, Greece, Germany, the UK, Canada, the USA, Latvia, France and Australia, which participated in the “Museum Guide” for the first time, took part in the forum. 10 thousand people to date watched the forum broadcast. All video recordings will be available on the Foundation’s website and social networks.

The “Museum Guide” program was divided into several thematic sections. The experts discussed the museums’ future in the context of Sustainable Development Goals on the first day. The second day was dedicated to digital transformation of museums and a changing role of a museum in online environment and media context. The participants focused on digital transparency and media literacy in culture on the third day of the forum. Interaction of museums with research institutions and development of partnership relations in museum community were discussed on the final day.

The  Director of the State Tretyakov Gallery Zelfira Tregulova; the Secretary General of the Network of European Museum Organizations (NEMO) Julia Pagel (Germany); the Director of the International Consultancy Agency Tom Fleming Creative Consultancy Tom Fleming (UK); the Director of  the MoMA Digital Media Shannon  Darrough (USA); the Director of the Manege Exhibition Hall Pavel Prigara (Saint Petersburg); the Director of the Yeltsin Museum Dina Sorokina (Ekaterinburg); an art therapist and a curator  of the National Museum of Contemporary Art Elisabeth Ioannides (Greece), a Chief Experience Officer of the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Seb Chan (Australia) and others shared their expertise.

The General Director of the Vladimir Potanin Foundation Oksana Oracheva pointed out: “In crisis, we are starting to recognize the role of museums in our lives. A modern museum is a unique social center where collections do not exist on their own but interact with a community. Museums, drawing on the past, give us an opportunity to reflect, form your own opinion, share the meaning and speak the same language. And this determines the future in many ways. I hope that we will manage to retain this new understanding and continue a professional dialogue on the museums’ future after the forum”.

This year the festival “Intermuseum-2020” was dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and focused on traditional culture and cultural memory. A special nomination of the Vladimir Potanin Foundation for the museum best volunteer project was included in the competition program.

The Naberezhnye Chelny Art Gallery with the project “A Picture with the Sun Inside” became the winner in this nomination. Within this project, 6 persons with disabilities took on a new social role of a museum guide and conducted more than 30 excursions at the exhibition of a graphic artist Alexander Khaldeev. The winner will get the Vladimir Potanin Foundation grant of 500 thousand rubles to develop volunteering.
